Why Share A Smile?

This contest is run in furtherance of the objectives of Child Spark Initiative, focussing on the positive impact of a smile on the face of a child. It is a celebration of the triumph of the human spirit over challenges and tribulations.

The competition collects photographs taken through the eyes of young people between the ages of 13 and 24 years.

The core concept is "hope" - how a child smiles through or in oblivion of difficult circumstances.

The competition will be empowering teenagers and young people in the art and science of photography.

What We Are Looking For
  • Simply - the smile of a child!

  • Context is very important in any work of art. We want you to tell a story with the picture you are taking.

  • The bold picture of a smiling face is powerful and so is the picture of a child on a hospital bed smiling in spite of the life-support machine. The loud smile of children at play on a plain Savannah field under the golden rays of a setting sun can also be breathtaking but what is most important is that the picture speaks to you as well.

  • Don't forget to take advantage of the tutorials on taking photographs.
